Is Your Compost Pile Sick?

Is Your Compost Pile Sick?

Have you taken your compost pile’s temperature lately?
This is the easiest way to tell if you are really composting! If your pile is between 120° to 160°, then you are successfully composting. If your pile is not getting up to temp, something is out of balance.

  • Is your pile too wet?
  • Too dry?
  • Are you layering bulking agent each time you add food waste to keep a good ratio of carbon and nitrogen?
  • Are you mixing too little or too much?

At GMT, we recommend that you take temperature readings regularly to keep your composting process in good health.

If you need assistance getting your pile up to temp, feel free to contact us. We want to help you compost successfully!
